About

SDOW.US represents the ProShares Ultrapro Short Dow30 ETF, an exchange-traded fund designed to deliver three times the inverse (opposite) of the daily performance of the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA). As a leveraged inverse ETF, SDOW is designed for sophisticated investors seeking short-term trading opportunities to profit from an expected decline in the DJIA. Due to the effects of compounding, its performance over periods longer than one day can differ significantly from three times the inverse of the DJIA's return. Consequently, SDOW is generally not recommended as a buy-and-hold investment.

Factors

Volatility of Dow Jones: SDOW is designed to move inversely to the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Higher Dow volatility generally leads to larger SDOW price swings. Dow Jones Performance: As a 3x inverse ETF, SDOW's price decreases when the Dow Jones increases, and vice versa. A rapidly rising Dow Jones can significantly depress SDOW's value. Interest Rates: Rising interest rates can negatively affect the overall stock market, potentially boosting SDOW as investors seek defensive positions. Market Sentiment: Broad market fear or uncertainty tends to drive investors toward inverse ETFs like SDOW, increasing demand and potentially its price. Expense Ratio & Management Fees: SDOW's internal costs eat into returns, impacting its overall price performance relative to its target index. Supply and Demand: Basic economics dictate price. High demand for hedging during market downturns can drive SDOW's price up.
